City Focuses on Completing Ciliwung River Normalization

The Jakarta Provincial Government strives to complete the Ciliwung River Normalization program to minimize the risk of flooding in Jakarta.

"This year, Rawajati and Cililitan segments will be completed,"

Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency Acting Head, Ika Agustin Ningrum stated, there are  16.52 kilometers remaining that have not been normalized until the end of 2024. This occurred after land acquisition in Rawajati Urban Village along 200 meters and Cililitan along 100 meters.

"Normalization of Ciliwung River is progressing quite well. The length of embankment that has been realized for normalization so far is 17.17 kilometers, as of 2024, only 16.52 kilometers," she mentioned, Friday (1/24).

For 2025, she added, the Jakarta Government has allocated budget around Rp 90 million which will be used to focus on land acquisition to continue normalizing the segments that have not been completed in 2024, including Rawajati, Cawang, and Cililitan.

"This year, Rawajati and Cililitan segments will be completed. Budget will later be focused on normalizing segments that haven't been completed in 2024, (namely) Rawajati, Cawang, and Cililitan," she said.

However, he continued, the speed of normalization is still relatively slow. Throughout 2024, physical work only reached 230 meters, consisting of 200 meters in Rawajati and 30 meters in Cililitan.

She assessed that the need of acceleration in the land acquisition process and physical construction to achieve the overall normalization target of 33.69 kilometers.

With the remaining 16.52 kilometers that have not been normalized, she conveyed, the Jakarta Government is committed to completing land acquisition and physical construction gradually in the next few years.

"This step is expected to minimize the risk of flooding in areas affected by overflowing Ciliwung River," she closed.
